Types of Hernia:

  1. Inguinal Hernia:
  •  Direct: Abdominal contents push through the Groin in older adults.
  •  Indirect: Contents protrude into the Groin or scrotum, more common in males.

      2. Femoral Hernia:- Contents (often intestine) push through the upper thigh, more common in women.

  1. Hiatal Hernia:
  •    Sliding:- Stomach protrudes into the chest.
  •    Paraesophageal:- Stomach squeezes next to the esophagus, potentially serious.
  1. Umbilical Hernia:- Contents protrude near the navel, more common in infants.
  1. Incisional Hernia:- Develops at a previous abdominal surgery scar.
  1. Epigastric Hernia:- Tissue protrudes between breastbone and navel in upper abdomen.
  1. Spigelian Hernia:- Rare type along the linea semilunaris.
  1. Obturator Hernia:- Rare; intestine protrudes through pelvic bone opening, more common in elderly women.
  1. Richter’s Hernia:- Partial intestinal wall protrudes through hernia sac.
  1. Lumbar Hernia:- Rare, occurs in lumbar triangle of Petit.
  1. Perineal Hernia:- Involves abdominal contents in the perineum, more common in older men.
  1. Parastomal Hernia:- Develops around a stoma, where intestine protrudes.
  2. Paraumbilical Hernia – Around umbilicus.
